How “Melancholia” Ruined My Life; Mother Earth Is A Whore!

As a lover of film, make believe, and  flights of fancy in general, I’ll just start off by saying that I love this film in so many different ways and on so many different levels. But I am deeply haunted by the message of the movie.

On one level it’s a movie about a wedding and a funeral. (That sounds familiar.) A sort of metaphor for life and death and how life is over before it even begins.

It’s also the story of the end of the world. In a not so science-fiction scenario of a previously unseen planet, Melancholia, (a.k.a. Planet X, a.k.a. Nibiru) that’s due to strike the Earth and end life as we know it.

According to Kirsten Dunst, it’s a movie about women and depression. The actress has been treated for depression herself and has said that she was attracted to the role of Justine because she saw the character as a sort of heroine. But the character of Justine is more like that of a poster child for post-modern dysfunctional feminism, who’s outer beauty and narcissistic lifestyle are nicely rewarded at work and in society. A character who’s depressed because of the empty and self loathing choices she’s made in her life, but in the end she is glorified for having at least lived a full and rewarding, albeit, depressing life. (Very mind fucking message. I’m sure the makers of anti-depressants and anti-anxiety pills will see profits soar even higher)

It’s also ironic how the movie mocks itself in this way when Justine mocks and belittles her sister Claire (Charlotte Gainsbourg) for trying to stage and manufacture a moment of peace and serenity in the face of the apocalypse by suggesting that they go to the balcony and have a glass of wine in their final minutes of life. Justine sarcastically asks Claire if she would like to listen to Beethoven’s celebratory Ninth Symphony as well. This is ironic because the whole movie was staged and crafted to sell Doomsday as a lifestyle choice, like a two hour commercial for Zoloft, set to the  more cosmically down-beat and ominous tunes of Wagner.

In a way this movie acts as a retort to the other, more optimistic side of the “2012” crowd, who happen to believe that the cosmic shift will bring about a new age of enlightenment and human achievement. Writer/Director Lars von Trier on the other hand, skillfully glorifies and deftly pays homage to death, self destruction, vanity, money, sex, drugs and alcohol. In other words he is doing Satan’s work. (Why do people who work for Satan make so much more money than the rest of us?) BTW Thank you Lars for those wonderfully  gratuitous naked scenes of the gorgeous Kirsten Dunst. Death never looked so beautiful.

All in all the movie was a majestic, visual portrayal of death, but a dismaying display of the human condition. The film’s protagonist Justine  is beautiful and successful on the outside but a manic, bipolar, self-destructive whore on the inside. Justine’s message to her sister Claire  is; “the Earth is evil; life on Earth is evil; no one will miss us because we are alone”.

All the main stream movie critics are falling over themselves to see who can praise this film more loudly for its’ stunning cinematic beauty and its’ complicated psycho deconstruction of the heroine who triumphs over death merely by embracing it. And I love this movie for these same reasons.

But the Masters of Mind Fuck have done it again. They have succeeded in giving us both the problem and the solution, all at once in a grand but seemingly innocuous yet celebrated work of art, about a depressed girl, a wedding, and two sisters who lead seemingly very different lives. Who both try and face the end of the world on their own terms. But at the literal end of the day, the message of the movie is clear: DON’T WORRY BE HAPPY, BE SAD, IT DOESN’T MATTER. JUST KEEP ON DRINKING, KEEP ON DOING DRUGS, KEEP ON FUCKING, JUST KEEP ON CONSUMING. BECAUSE THERE’S NOTHING ELSE YOU CAN DO EXCEPT EMBRACE THE TRUTH. OUR MOTHER EARTH IS A WHORE AND WE ARE ALL HER BASTARD CHILDREN. OUR FATHERS ARE WEAK, IGNOBLE, AND COWARDLY CREATURES WHO SHRIVEL IN THE FACE OF HORROR AND DESERT THEIR CHILDREN WHEN THEY NEED THEM MOST, UNABLE AND UNWILLING TO HELP. WE ARE ALL EVIL AND DESERVE NOTHING BETTER THAN WHAT WE ALL HAVE COMING. DEATH. DEATH IS COMING. COMING SOON.

This film is telling us what is to come. THEY are getting us prepared for something big. Melancholia is just another mental pre-conditioner for what the New World Order has in store for humanity. Whether THEY set about the events themselves, e.g., wars, financial collapse, food shortages, water shortages, and disease.  Or whether a grand cosmic event rocks planet Earth, evidence shows that THEY have plans for survival. (D.U.M.B.) And for the rest of us they’ll have solutions. And we will praise them for providing the solutions for the problems that they themselves will have created or will have conveniently failed to warn us of. We will also thank them for allowing us to serve as their willing slaves, while we look the other way as THEY “cleanse” Mother Earth.

Hollywood movies are merely Satan’s projections of things to come or illusions of things that have already happened. THEY make films and control corporate media so that THEY can control how we think and behave in the present. This movie as well as other doomsday movies of the past decade all have the same message. They’re telling us about a future so bleak that anything short of total annihilation would be considered a godsend. A world in which the common man will rejoice just to be alive, no matter what indignities he might have to perform or endure. Hollywood hasn’t given us anything new in terms of messages, subliminal or otherwise. And there is a candidness about this movie that would have normally been refreshing, i.e. yes life sucks, yes people are self absorbed to the point of being evil, yes we will all die, and yes we may be alone. But we do not have to follow their script. It does not matter how we die. It only matters how we live.
